WOVEN FABRIC MAT
Join us to learn a fun technique for making woven fabric floor mats, wall hangings, table runners, placemats, etc. Perfect for leftover 2 ½ inch strips or jelly rolls. Batik fabric works best, or starch quilting fabric well. Can be made with or without batting and can be made any size. We will make a small mat size to learn the technique.
FABRIC CUTS: 10 strips 2 ½” wide by 22-24” long for “warp”
16-20 strips 2 ½” wide by 14-15” long for “weft”
2 pieces 20” wide by 24-25” long for backing (1 piece same size batting if using)
2-3 strips 2 ½ wide by WOF for binding
FABRIC CHOICE: Fabric choice is completely up to you. Use two different fabrics for a more “uniform” pattern. 3-4 fabrics will make a more “variegated” pattern. All different fabrics will make a more “confetti” pattern.
PRIOR TO CLASS (if possible): On all 2 ½” strips, fold each long side edge into wrong side center and press flat. This makes 1 ¼” wide strips with long sides meeting in back (wrong side of fabric) center. Like a single fold bias tape, but NOT cut on the bias and not sewn together. Can use a 1 ¼” bias tape maker or sashing tool to make the strips.
Full instructions will be provided day of class.
