Happy New Year
*Please note the corrected date for Ryans Cases for Smiles*
We had a great holiday at our house with Michele. It was very laid back and easy. Of course for me the hardest part is sending her off on the plane after the visit is over. It’s been more than 20 years and I still tear up.
So, here we are with a fresh start for a new year, a chance to finish some projects tucked into the back of the closet, an opportunity to take a class, learn a new technique and meet new friends. At Kay’s we have lots of opportunities to fill any of these plans.
On the first Thursday of each month we are having Scrap Happy Series of classes. This allows you to use up scraps in your stash and get a project out of fabrics we all have, regardless of how much they do or do not match. (Remember, this is scrappy.) In January, we will have Scrap Happy Apple Core as the class making apple core blocks. Mo will be bringing in her AccuQuilt cutter to make the cutting a breeze. This class is January 3rd at 10:30 and we still have openings. So gather some scraps and we can get you started a on a great project.
We have a Tuffet class starting on January 4th. Debbi will be teaching this two session class. There will be some homework to get this project complete by the end of the second session, but this is totally doable. Stop by the stop to see the beautiful tuffet we have in the shop.
* I am so pleased and excited and very grateful to all of my wonderful friends who work on pillowcases to be donated to “Ryan's Cases for Smiles”. In the year 2018 Kay’s, had 695 pillowcases donated. That is way more than I could have ever imagined. Thank you so much for your awesome support. We are having another “Pillowcase Day” at Kay’s on Thursday, January 10th. Please feel free to come in to sew with the group, or just drop off some completed pillowcases. *
Debbi is offering a class using the Gypsy Sampler pattern. The pattern is very colorful and nice. We made up our sample using a dark colored background instead the traditional white. This class starts Saturday, January 12th.
Mo has another Beginning Westalee Ruler class on Tuesday, January 15th. This is a very popular class. There are some supplies that need to be special ordered, so sign up early enough that we can get your supplies here before the class starts.
We have a beginning quilting class using the Walk About Quilt pattern. This pattern makes up nicely and each and everyone of them turns out great. (Scott has made this pattern twice, and has one more that Michele wants made up! You may have seen on the poll on Facebook.) This class is being offered on January 15th.
Our resident “Bag Lady”, Caryn is at it again. “Clam Up” bags are available in five different sizes. Caryn has made all five, so you can pick the size that best suits you. We all love our little pouches and bags. This class is January 19th.
Sharon Ralph is teaching the Judy Niemeyer pattern, “Moroccan Courtyard”. This does not look like a typical Judy pattern. We have had so many wonderful comments on the sample in the shop. This class is being held on January 22nd.
We are very fortunate to have Tina from Turtle Hand Batik coming for a trunk show/lecture on Friday, January 25th. Many of you have seen the amazing panels and fabrics that Turtle Hand has and Tina has assured me that I will have lots of new panels and yardage in the shop for this lecture. This is limited seating, so schedule your spot at this colorful and amazing lecture.
The afternoon of the 25th, Tina will be hosting a mini Art Quilt class using a Turtle Hand Batik panel. You will have the pieced quilt top completed in class. I am finishing quilting mine now. There are so many possibilities using one of the panels, that no two will look alike. Sign up today for this class.
Mo is offering the seven week Westalee Quilt as You Go class. Many who have taken this class have learned so much. Mo is such a great teacher and will be able to help you with each and every block. This class is being offered two times each week, so if you have to miss one, you have the opportunity to take the class another day that same week, so you won’t fall behind. Classes are Tuesday mornings or Thursday evenings, starting January 29th or January 31st.
Caryn has made a very cool fun shirt, "The Bondi Top", that is in Caryn colors and perfect for our Florida weather. This cute shirt is hanging in the shop. This will be a class on January 30th.
Last class to be offered during this month of January is with Mo and is “Quilting with your Walking Foot”. Mo has offered this class in the past and has been very popular. This class is January 31st.
Just an FYI...on February 1st, I will be offering the Holly Bag. I have two samples in the shop. (One was actually a Christmas gift to Michele, I just told her that she had to leave it here as a sample!)
Plus, every Monday is “Sew Its Monday”, our open sew at Kay’s. We have a great group of ladies who are in the shop every week, but there is always room for more. You are welcome to bring your machine if you want to use that, or handwork. You can bring a lunch or go out.
As you can see, we do have a full schedule of some informative and fun classes and events. All of these classes and events have photos and more detailed descriptions on our website.
UPS and FedEx are visiting our store frequently and delivering beautiful new fabrics, so stay tuned to Facebook and Instagram to see photos of the new arrivals.
For the month of January we are participating in the the Fab Shop Hop. This means all of our fabrics are posted with photos on our website and you can purchase any fabric online and either have it shipped or pick it up at the shop.
As always, we are so grateful for your friendship and support.
Kay and Scott
